ROJAVA – These letter was written in 2019 and sent to the Zapatistas Women’s struggle as they organized an worldwide women’s encounter in Chiapas that counted with the presence of 5 thousand women across the world.
Fighting comrades,
You are part of our wind, which is bringing news from your land,
These news speak about mega capitalist projects, about exploitation, death and mistreatment of women. But they also speak of tactics and strategies, struggle and resistance. Your context is a reflection of ours. And our context is reflection of yours.
Here in Rojava, the Turkish State, imperialist forces and jihadist groups want to end the life which is flourishing, irrigated by the voice of women, who have risen up since there is something to rise up against.
Now with the Turkish occupation of the territory of Afrin, they have cut a very important artery, but the heart of Kurdistan and the democratic autonomy project beats stronger and stronger. Now you can hear it from all parts of the world. As we can hear yours, dear comrades.
How could they think they would silence us?
There have now been so many deaths, violations, rapes and abductions. So much torture, so much devastation. But far from loosing strength, the self-defence of this territory expands and develops from the armed frontline, to health, education, economy and a political system governed by the struggle of the people.
Life and death are both our fighting tools. We are writing from the Institute which we named Andrea Wolf, after an internationalist comrade who fell in the mountains of Kurdistan defending the freedom of us all. All the people who, like her, nourish our hopes and dreams with their blood keep walking for, with and amoungst us. In these lands it is said, Sehid Namirin, that the fallen ones never die.
Don’t they understand that death gives life to history?
We can also tell you that our view follows the steps of the science of women, jineoloji, which takes shape as road-map. A map to find ourselves, to define ourselves, to look for new ways, ours, that liberate our mindset, our spirit and our bodies, our history, our essence and our gender in all it’s diversity.
We have known you in armed struggle, in the small pueblitos giving lessons, in your milpas, jungles and mountains, in political campaign, trying out paths and challenging all the different worlds. We are not too sad dear comrades that, after what you exposed, you can not put on the second International Gathering of Women who Fight. Because the struggles have many shapes, and it is clear that you have always searched for yours.
We can only support you and walk alongside those decisions that make us free. We can only listen and learn from one another. We can and should keep fighting. How if not could we face this war against patriarchy, capitalism and colonialism that never really won us over? How if not could we transform its cracks into huge wells and cliffs of life?
We will continue as you said, preserving the small, powerful, great light with which you opened up new paths, coming together, on the 8th and many other days. And you will never disappear. We are still watching, we are watching everything compañeras.
Jin, jiyan, azadi
