NEWS CENTER – Former YPG fighter Riccardo Nicodano, who died in Novara, Italy on January 13, was sent on his final journey today after a funeral at the church of San Vincenzo in the city of Pombia. Along with Nicodano’s family, dozens of international, local people and representatives of the Italian Kurdish Committee attended the funeral.
After the funeral service, which ended in the church, his body was wrapped in YPG and YPJ pennants and taken to the downtown cemetery. Messages from the YPG, the Rojava International Battalion and dozens of institutions were read at the farewell ceremony held here.
Riccardo Nicodano, who was called Botan in the YPG, contributed to the revolution process in north-east Syria for 1.5 years. He actively participated in the liberation movements of Karama and Tebqa, which are near Reqqa.
Nicodano, who learned to speak Kurdish at an advanced level during his stay and mingled with society here, took an active part in actions and events after his return to Italy in 2019, provided information about the process of the Rojava revolution and organized solidarity.
