BEHDINAN – Garê has become an area where the invading Turkish army left with great disappointment after the invasion operation launched in 2021, described as the beginning of the end and a serious disappointment for the enemy. Maybe many people would hear the name Garê for the first time with these invasion attacks.

Yes, Garê is a place in Kurdistan, where guerrilla forces have settled for years, knows every inch of it, and knows its mountains, stones, that is, its nature and water as well as its name. Its forests are so dense and beautiful that sometimes you feel like you are in a fairy tale land. There are deep valleys in places and valleys where clear waters flow, which are not very deep in places but hidden under the splendor of plane trees. Garê, which offers its generosity with walnut trees, vineyards and figs, is said to be the place of the legendary “Hanging Gardens of Babylon“. Yes, those who know this beauty become guerrillas. For he has passed through every valley, walked every path, and leaned against every tree.
Those were the first places for us to step into guerrillaism. It has been the place to learn to live with nature, to return to the self, to adapt to the difficulties created by geographical conditions, in short, to rediscover life. Therefore, it may be more appropriate for us to say “Mother” for Garê. Mahir Kop, who fought heroically in the Avaşîn Werxelê resistance in 2021 and was martyred as a result of chemical weapons, has the following words written in his diary addressing the Avaşin field;
“When I came to your land I was different and I am different now. I learned to live and live with you. I learned to love, to respect, to understand. I lived my truth, my feelings. I didn’t look at you like dirt. He looked at you as a mother and I will look at you and know that I will end up in you like all your rescuers, that is, I was different when I stepped on the ground and now it is different. I learned to live and let live with you, I learned to love, to respect, to give meaning. I experienced my own reality, my feelings. I didn’t look at you just like a land. I took care of you like a mother and I will look after you from now on and know that I will reach the end with you like all your bouncers…”
Here, the entire summary of the Garê war is hidden in these words of martyr Mahir Kop. These sentences were the expression of the meaning given to these lands by the heroes who did not give any mercy to the invading Turkish army and its technique in Siyanê, under the command of Martyr Soresh Beytüşşebap.
Even though we were not in the areas where one-on-one battles took place, the enthusiastic voice of our friends in the moving terrain units via the device day and night, the words “the enemy is running away from here“, the words “we will strike the enemy, we are waiting” contained great excitement for us. While the warplanes were bombing all the areas we were in, and the reconnaissance planes were flying above us, the great will and performance of the friends revealed the professionalism of the new era guerrilla. We were all waiting for the enemy to come to our areas and we were preparing ourselves on this basis. We all had a very intense desire to fight and strike the enemy. We knew that no matter where it came from, we had to defeat it. When he could not stand against the superior will of his enemy friends, he had to flee, leaving his technical equipment. So without looking back…
Of course, there was also “Gabar Hill”, which played the biggest role in the war. The friends on Gabar Hill coordinated the fighting units one by one and kept the friends in communication with each other. In other words, one of the main forces that determined the fate of the war was the flawless and meticulous work of those friends.
No matter where the enemy would come from, he would never have succeeded, and he must have understood this in the person of the Siyanê martyrs, because he had to admit his defeat. The army, which he could not fit into the sky, wanted to cover his failure by using chemical weapons, which messed up his face. Of course, there is no legitimacy of either an army or a state that murders even its own captive soldiers in this way. Of course, we knew that there were martyrdoms, but we had no information about where and how. Later on, we learned from the statements that Şoreş Beytüşşebap friend and 13 other friends were martyred by fighting heroically.
While the Garê war was a new outlet for the guerrilla and hope for the Kurdish people, it became the beginning of destruction for the fascist and occupying forces. Comrades Şoreş, Cudî, Bawer, Erdal, Argêş, Avareş, Rojhat, Xeyri, Delil, Xabur, Rêber, Seydo, Seyfi and Arhat became unforgettable heroes who wrote the Garê resistance epic. We also experience the unique pride and honor of being their comrade. Of course, we will avenge them and we will have a fight worthy of them.
