BEHDÎNAN – In a written statement, the HPG Press Center stated, “The details of the identity and martyrdom of our comrade Azad, who attained martyrdom during the resistance process, could not be disclosed because they were not known in time.”
The explanation reads as follows: “The Nisêbîner self-government resistance, in which unique heroism was experienced and which was woven by our valuable comrades with great effort and sacrifice, has created a syndrome among the fascist Turkish state forces and has gone down in history as the Nisêbîner Syndrome received, which is still acting on the enemy.
With this historical resistance, our society from seven to seventy years has made clear to the whole world its insistence on a free and democratic life. Kurdish society has shown everyone, whether friend or foe, that despite all the attacks, it will not back down from its quite natural, legitimate and justified demand for a free life. During this epic resistance, our comrade Azad Serdem, who served in the ranks of the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas for many years, moved to Nisêbin to support our society’s resistance and took his place in the resistance process. The exact identity and martyrdom of our comrade Azad Serdem, who suffered martyrdom during the resistance process, could not be disclosed due to time constraints.

Our comrade Azad Serdem was born in the Midyad district of Mêrdîn in a family committed to welatparêz and national values. Our comrade Azad’s family has been familiar with the apoist movement since the early years of our struggle and has been influenced by our struggle led by Rêber APO. Our comrade Azad’s father was captured by the enemy in the 1980s and was subjected to severe torture. At a time when the colonialist Turkish state wanted to hand over our society through torture, oppression and massacres with the fascist military coup government, it participated in the honorable prison resistance developed under the leadership of our PKK party and gave its own despite all the enemy’s tortures attitude not up. He later continued his struggle and became a Welatparêz that everyone should follow. Our comrade Azad, whose family migrated to Êlih due to enemy pressure, grew up in such a family environment, heard and knew our party from an early age. The fact that the environment in which he lived consisted of our society, which had emigrated from many provinces of Kurdistan due to enemy oppression, made a deep impression on our comrade Azad. Our comrade, who was looking for struggle since his youth, joined the ranks of the guerrillas in 2003, at a time when there were liquidatory attacks against our party and our party was being liquidated and the possibilities of freedom after which our society has yearned for centuries
Our comrade, who received his first training in the guerrilla ranks in the Qandil area, had the opportunity to develop ideologically and militarily. After staying in the Qandil region for a while, he moved to the Heftanin region, where he engaged in activities that required great faith, care and sensitivity. In these works, in which he participated for a long time, he distinguished himself with his labor and sacrifice. After his successful activity in the Heftanin area, our comrade moved to the Botan area and engaged in guerrilla activities in many areas, especially in Gabar, Mawa and Kerboran. Through his participation in the Botan area, he became one of our comrades that all his comrades would follow as an example. He won the respect of his comrades mainly through his humble attitude, his work and his self-sacrificing involvement. Through his participation in many different activities in the Botan area, he accepted the tasks of the time on the right basis and did not renounce his duties and responsibilities as a fighter. Our comrade Azad, who went to Nisêbin area in 2016 against the attacks that the enemy has been developing since 2015 to suppress our society’s demands for freedom and to hand over our society through large-scale massacres, took part in the historical Nisêbin resistance that the enemy induced syndromes.
