RIHA – Receiving the last news from Abdullah Öcalan two years ago, his brother Mehmet Öcalan stated that the opening of the Imralı gates was due to great social pressure and said, “Let’s not expect anything from anyone. Let’s trust our own freedom, ensure our unity, overcome the isolation.” PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been held in Imrali F Type High Security Prison since February 15, 1999 under severe isolation conditions. For two years, there has been no news from Öcalan and Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktaş. While all applications of lawyers are left unanswered, actions and activities to end the isolation continue.
The last meeting with Öcalan was on the phone of his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021, but this meeting lasted only 3-4 minutes.
Speaking to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) on the 2nd anniversary of the last meeting with Öcalan, Mehmet Öcalan called on the public to end the isolation practices.
‘THEY TRUTH THEIR OWN LAWS’
Noting that Abdullah Öcalan reacted to the isolation practices in his last phone call, Mehmet Öcalan said, “In the phone call 2 years ago, the president asked me, ‘Did they send you or did you come yourself?’ He asked. I said that the prison director called and said that we could have an interview, and I accepted. Then the president said, “I have legal rights, first of all, I have to talk to my lawyers. The state is doing it wrong, you are doing it wrong as a tool, you shouldn’t have accepted it by thinking about it.” “Then the phone is already turned off. According to the laws Turkey has set, every family has the right to meet with their detainee. These isolation practices cannot be defined by law, democracy or humanity. Underlining that Abdullah Öcalan is not just a person, he has a great weight in the Middle East, Öcalan reacted to the isolation practice as follows: “Everything is clear. There has been heavy isolation for 24 years. We have not heard any news for 2 years. No matter how the state looks at it, but it has put it on its own. “The Turkish state says that it is a democratic and law-abiding state, how true is that? They do not apply the laws they have set, this is an approach that is far from the law.”

Stating that the CPT and other international institutions are aware of the isolation practices, but they remain silent about it, Mehmet Öcalan said that anyone who calls himself a human and a democrat should react to the isolation practices. Noting that the opening of the Imrali gates is due to a great social pressure, Mehmet Öcalan said, “The opening of the Imrali gates is necessary not only for one person, but to stop the bloodshed in the Middle East for years. I also watch their television, their intellectuals are not intellectuals, their opponents are not oppositional. None of them. no one speaks the truth. No one talks about the heavy isolation in Imrali prison. This is their shame. No one talks about isolation except HDP and Kurdish institutions. This is unacceptable. Our call is to the intellectuals and the Kurdish people.
‘LET’S TRUST OUR STRENGTH’
Criticizing the silence of the opposition parties in the face of the isolation practices, Mehmet Öcalan emphasized that the opposition should talk about the isolation in Imrali prison. Mentioning that the Kurdish problem is related to the isolation in Imrali, Öcalan said, “More than 50,000 people lost their lives. Millions of people had to migrate from their lands. Let the opposition say: If we come to power, we will solve the Kurdish issue democratically. We want him to say this. But I do not believe that they can say these things. They have neither said nor done anything until today. Our wish is that the opposition does not do as the government did. No problem can be solved in the Middle East until the Kurdish issue is resolved. In HDP, none of us should expect anything from anyone. Let’s not wait for anything. Let’s trust our own self-determination, let’s ensure our unity. If the Kurdish problem is solved, all the problems in the Middle East will be solved,” he said
‘PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED IF THE DOORS ARE OPENED’
Emphasizing that many problems in Kurdistan, Turkey and the Middle East will be resolved if the gates of Imrali are opened, Mehmet Öcalan concluded his words as follows: “The Kurdish issue is a world issue, and the president’s issue is related to it. It is to everyone who is fighting for human rights that everyone should raise their hand to their conscience, this isolation is unacceptable. I especially call on the Kurds to increase their struggle everywhere, we have no other choice. If we carry out our struggle with wisdom and ensure our unity, it will have a great effect in the future “If the Imrali gates are opened, all the problems will be solved. That’s why the Imrali gates must be opened as soon as possible. I call on everyone in this regard.”
