NEWS CENTER – People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been kept in isolation in Imrali since his captivity in 1999. There has been no news of him for the last three years. Interview requests remain unanswered for a long time. There is no need to provide a justification. Although arbitrary and systematic obstacles are sometimes justified by disciplinary sanctions, this is only reported to their lawyers, sometimes weeks, sometimes months later.
OBJECTIONS ARE REJECTED WITHOUT GOVERNMENT
According to the news of the Mezopotamya Agency, the lawyers last applied to the Bursa 2nd Execution Judge on 23 December 2022 against the family visit ban.
However, this application was rejected on January 3, 2023, citing a three-month family visit ban. No justification was given for the refusal. It was contented only with the information that it was a “disciplinary penalty”.
Lawyers filed an appeal to the Bursa 1st Heavy Penal Court on January 10 for the annulment of this decision. The court rejected the objection on the same day without giving any reason.
VISIT BAN IN EARTHQUAKE
In addition to the repeated applications for interviews every week, lawyers and family members applied for re-interview due to the earthquake that occurred in Mereş center on February 6 and affected many provinces.
Following this request, it was reported that Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who were in isolation in İmralı, were given a visitor ban for 3 months on 21 December 2022, and the said ban became final on 10 January 2023.
SIGHT BANS CONTINUED SYSTEMATICALLY
Despite this, the lawyers continued to apply for a lawyer’s opinion twice a week and once a family opinion.
The objections of the lawyers continued in April, but they were again rejected. Meanwhile, it was learned that a new visitor ban decision was taken on March 15, and the decision became final on March 30.
The decision to ban visitation was brought to Bursa 1st High Criminal Court on 14 April. This objection was rejected on April 30 and the decision became final. Thus, a new ban was imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.
NEW SIX MONTHS ON APRIL 26
When the lawyers applied to the Bursa Execution Judge with their clients on April 27, 2023, no response was given. Instead of being a judge, the lawyers were notified by the Bursa 1st High Criminal Court.
The Communiqué included a decision taken by the Bursa 3rd Criminal Court on April 26. It was understood with this communiqué that a new 6-month meeting ban was imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.
Lawyers made individual applications to the Constitutional Court (AYM) against the prohibitions in question.
