BEHDÎNAN – The co-chair of the Executive Council of the KCK stated that it is more necessary than ever for the Kurdish society and the socialist democratic movement of Turkey at this critical time when fascism is trying to institutionalize itself in Kurdistan and Turkey to further develop their unity and solidarity and to strengthen the fight against fascism.
The co-chairs of the Executive Council of the KCK issued a written statement on the occasion of the Şehîds Day in May. The Co-Chair’s statement reads as follows:
“Many revolutionaries and welatparêz, who played a historical role in the emergence, development and spread of the freedom struggle in Kurdistan and are well known to the welatparêzen society of Kurdistan, suffered their martyrdom in May. For this reason, our movement has declared May the “Month of the Şehîds”. We commemorate the revolution and democracy in the person of the Mai-Şehîds with great respect and gratitude to all Şehîds, bow reverently to their great memory; We reiterate our promise that we will lead their struggle to victory.
THE MOST DEVOTED AND BRAVE DAUGHTERS AND SONS IN SOCIETY
The month of May occupies an important place in relation to the revolution in Kurdistan. The most courageous and self-sacrificing daughters and sons of Kurdish society, who were Hevals Rêber APOs in the early days of Kurdistan’s freedom struggle and who took part in the sacred path for freedom by risking everything, lost their lives in May. Haki Karer, the first Şehîd of our movement’s party process; Halil Çavgun and his Hevals, one of the pioneers of the Hilvan Siverek resistance; Ferhat Kurtay, Necmi Öner, Mahmut Zengin and Eşref Anyık, who achieved martyrdom by setting their bodies on fire against the anti-Kurdish torture fascist system in Amed Dungeon; Mehmet Karasungur, one of the military commanders of the revolution in Kurdistan and many other immortal heroes became Şehîd in May. The comrades who fell in May paved the way for the development of the culture of courage, sacrifice and heroism for the freedom of the country and society in Kurdistan. In this regard, it is very important to commemorate the month of May and the comrades who fell in May with great gratitude, and to show our determination to walk on their path. THE MASSACRE OF HEWLÊR AND THE ŞEHÎDS
One of the events that the Şehîds and welatparêzen people of Kurdistan will always remember with anger in May is the massacre of Hewlêr and his Şehîds. The KDP massacred dozens of our wounded Hevals who were being treated in the hospital in 1997. This massacre and the betrayal committed by the KDP will never be forgotten by our society. Unfortunately, the KDP continues this treacherous attitude today by siding with the Turkish state in occupying Kurdistan and carrying out the Kurdish genocide; it supports the occupying Turkish army against the guerrillas defending Kurdistan. The KDP continues its collaborative and treacherous stance in the Medya Defense Zones, as well as in Rojava, Shengal and Maxmûr. The KDP is the Kurdish enemy,

May is also an important month for Turkey’s socialist movement. Many revolutionaries of the Socialist Movement of Turkey, notably İbrahim Kaypakkaya, Deniz Gezmiş and his comrades, became Şehîd in May. We commemorate these great Şehîds with respect and gratitude and reiterate our commitment to their memory and to continuing their struggle. Rêber APO has always attached importance to the struggles and the line of these great revolutionaries of the socialist movement of Turkey and has shown through his practice that he is a supporter of this line.
