NEWS CENTER – On the 15th of February, 1999, the Leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, Abdullah Öcalan, was handed over to the Republic of Turkey following a clandestine operation backed by an alliance of secret services directed by their corresponding governments. Disgusted by this outrageous violation of international law, several intellectuals and representatives of civil organisations launched an initiative for the release of Abdullah Öcalan.
- The last time there was any information with Ocalan was in March 25, 2021 during a phone call with his brother Mehmet Ocalan;
- Rezan Sarıca and Nevroz Uysal, two of Öcalan’s lawyers, were able to meet with their clients after 8 years on May 2-22, June 12-18 and August 7, 2019. Ever since, there was no visit.
Kurdish youth in Hannover, Germany, carried out a civil disobedience action at Hannover Central Train Station to protest the aggravated isolation imposed on Leader APO and to ensure his physical freedom. The young people who started walking at the train station wanted to walk to the center of the city. The police, who wanted to prevent the march, blocked the young people. In a short time, the young people who broke the blockade marched to the city center with the slogans.
The action of the youth, who also distributed leaflets in German during the march, attracted the attention of the residents of the city.
The young people who turned their walks into a rally in the city center made a statement; They urged all APOist youth to actively take action and said, “As Hannover youth, we will be in the fields until Rêber APO regains his physical freedom. On this basis, we invite all patriotic youth to come together around Rêber APO.”
In Berlin, the capital of Germany, Kurdish youth carried out a civil disobedience action for the physical freedom of Rêber APO as part of the “Cenga Azadiyê Serbixin” campaign. Young people walking with Leader APO flags in the city center often shouted the slogans of “Bijî Serok APO”.
In the statement made by the youth in the name of the action, the purpose of the march was emphasized by saying, “The reason we are here today is to draw attention to the isolation conditions of the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been in isolation since 1999, and to ensure his physical freedom.”
